Lanzarote

Looking to explore this wild, arid spot in the Canary Islands? Here’s my guide to the best things to do in Lanzarote.

First of all, I decided to participate in a guided Lanzarote tour. Because my main vacation was in Fuerteventura and I only planned one day for Lanzarote. For me it was a good combination and I really liked it. But there are of course, a lot of different activities in Lanzarote if you have more time.

Timanfaya National Park

The first stop of the tour was the Timanfaya National Park. I was really happy that I decided for the bus tour, because the streets were crowded with cars and the bus had the privilage to just drive through the park next to cars without waiting to pass them. There was a “scenic route” included in the tour and then we arrived at a hotspot in the middle of the national park were the tour guide showed us some experiments. However, the experiments were fun but I do not really like typical tourist attractions.

La Geria

After that we visited “La Geria” – it is one of the most famous wine regions of Lanzarote. It is Lanzarote’s main wine-growing region, occupying about 52 square kilometres. I was really impressed by the wine region, because it was totally new for me. We had the possibility to try a wine and after that we went to the Restaurant next to the winery. The Restaurant was really authentic and I ate very delicious Tapas.

El Golfo

The last stop of the tour was “El Golfo”. This green lagoon at the Playa del Charco de los Clicos is one of the most important tourist attractions of Lanzarote and is located in the southwest of the island, right next to the Playa de El Golfo. First our bus stopped at this stunning beach and then it was a five minutes walk to “El Golfo”

Black Sand Beach

However, don’t miss the chance to explore this beach and the unique combination of black sand, red rock and blue-white fishing boats. The sea is also particularly stormy and so you can watch an impressive high swell from the viewing platforms in stormy weather or enjoy the sunset in clear visibility.
